KINDERGARTEN & FIRST GRADE FIELD TRIP |
|
The Kindergarten and First Grade went to Bower's Kidseum on Friday, February 20. We had a wonderful time. We were greeted by our docent who taught us about different cultures. She started by showing us a map and letting us listen to different languages. Each language originated in one country and then spread to other locations. We got to see different masks, costumes, and instruments. It was fun trying on the costumes. Then after our free exploration time, we went upstairs to the art room and made clay pinch pots. Each step of the pinch pot was explained to us as we created ours. When they were completed, we had a pot with a rattle snake lid. It was a great trip! See all the fun we had.

DISNEYLAND BAND
On Friday, February 20th, the second grade took a fun trip to the Orange County Performing Arts Center to see the Disneyland Band. We had so much fun!! We sat in the front row of the balcony and learned about brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. We also learned what the conductor does. We were all so excited when Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy came out to help conduct the band! We listened to a lot of different styles of music. It was a wonderful concert and ended with us all getting a free pass to go to Disneyland!!

Parshat Terumah
(Exodus 25:1-27:19) is is paired with the Haftarah from 1 Kings (5:26-6:13)
In the Haftarah, God promises to dwell in the Temple. The Hebrew word for "dwell," shachanti is related to the Hebrew word for the Tabernacle built in the desert, mishkan. Nahum Sarna observed that the word implies temporary lodging (JPS Torah Commentary: Exodus, p. 158). Therefore, God's presence, even in the permanent dwelling, is a roving presence. This can mean that the Temple is not God's permanent dwelling place, but rather a place toward which people can orient their prayer and a place in which God's presence is always felt. Why do you think people need to go to a special place like a Tabernacle, Temple, or sanctuary and engage in special sacrifices or other rituals in order to feel God's presence? God's presence may be experienced in any location while engaging in wide variety of activities. Discuss with your family all the places in which you experience God's presence. Where do you go? What do you do? How do these places and activities bring you closer to God? L'Shalom, Robin Hoffman Judaic Studies Director

THIS WEEK'S VALUE - EMUNAH |
EMUNAH - FAITH
Rabbi Baruch's grandson was playing hide-and-seek with another boy. He hid himself well and waited for his playmate to find him. After waiting a long time, he came from his hiding place but the boy was nowhere in sight. Now he realized the boy had not even looked for him. Rabbi Baruch's eyes started to brim with tears and he said, " God says the same thing: I hide, but no one wants to seek me."
Chasidic Tale, 18th Century
This tale relates to our icon with two hands and an eye above, because by using our hearts and minds, and by looking at the world around us we find God. By looking within ourselves and discovering the goodness within us, we find God. By using our hands, we do the mitzvoth that God commands, and we demonstrate that we have Emunah. We all try to find God, and God is trying to find us. If we look deep down in ourselves and continue to strive to do all that God asks, perhaps we will come to feel that God is really all around us.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Apparently there was a problem with the link to the last issue of the Shooting Star. I am including the link again.
There were no games this week as many of the boys are enjoying science experiences at Catalina Island.
There are 2 games next week:
WEDNESDAY: Home game This is a re-match against McDowell. The last game was a nail bitter that ended in a double overtime loss. Come cheer on our Stars - We can win this one!
THURSDAY: Away game at Heritage Oak. Drivers will be needed for this game.
Look for the Shooting Star covering these games!
